Berkey filter compatibility

All Berkey systems use the same type of main element, fitted in the upper chamber. Two generations exist today, and both fit all systems:
- Black Berkey: the original element, supplied with the stainless steel systems. According to the manufacturer, it is suitable for mains water as well as other fresh water sources.
- Phoenix Gravity: the new generation, supplied with the Berkey Light and certified to NSF/ANSI 42 in the Travel, Big and Royal Berkey. It is for mains water only.
How many elements per system
| System | Elements supplied | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Travel Berkey | 2 Black Berkey | 2 |
| Big Berkey | 2 Black Berkey | 4 |
| Royal Berkey | 2 Black Berkey | 4 |
| Imperial Berkey | 2 Black Berkey | 6 |
| Crown Berkey | 2 Black Berkey | 8 |
| Berkey Light | 2 Phoenix | 4 |
| Go Berkey | 1 Black Berkey | 1 |
Adding elements increases the flow rate and the number of litres filtered before replacement; filtration quality stays the same. Each unused element hole is closed with a blocking plug.
Optional PF-2 elements
PF-2 elements screw onto the bottom of each main element, in the lower chamber, to reduce fluoride and arsenic. You need one for each main element. The Go Berkey cannot take them. Everything is explained in PF-2 filters.
